IT WAS a jolly affair recently as scores of friends and well-wishers converged on the Wrightlife eatery at Fairview, Montego Bay, to celebrate not only her birthday, but businesswoman Pat Wright’s quintuple triumphs over the ‘Big C’.

Amid the merriment, time was also dedicated during the party to the reading of an excerpt by Wright from her newly published book, a memoir titled The Wright Life, a publication that she said was prompted by the consistent urgings of her close friend and business partner Katrin Casserly.

“I have never wanted to write a book – never,” she stressed. But I realised that people wanted me to write a book as the only five-time cancer survivor in the Western Hemisphere.”

Wright has had different cancers that never usually spread to other parts of her body.

“One thing I know for sure – and I feel like Oprah now – is that I am loved,” she added before beginning the chapter dubbed ‘Mary’, in honour of her mother who bore that name.

Marvin Hall, founder of Hall of Learning, in a tribute to Wright, recounted the ways in which she had impacted his life for more than 35 years, dubbing her style and interactions with him, and others, as the ‘Wright Inspiration’.

INFINITE TRUST

He said that her infinite trust and belief in others have created such a level of confidence in him that is not able to be erased, from allowing him to drive her car with just a “young driver’s licence” when he was 18 years old to hiring him to manage her inventory while he was a university undergrad.

Hall also described Wright as a risktaker who has loved him from when they first met when he was only 10 years old.

“Anyone who knows Pat Wright knows that she has a very high standard for anything that she does . ... she also believes she is going to raise the bar so high that it is going to be equal to the best in the world or she exceeds it ... a part of the Wright Inspiration is also evolving and knowing when it is time to adapt, time to change,” he said.
