From the Pulpit – there is something special about the Bible.

There is something special about the Bible

“For the Word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any doubleedged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

THE BIBLE has existed for centuries and it is no ordinary book, but one with ever-evolving possibilities. According to young preacher and theology student, Jahvaine Griffiths, the Bible allows readers to face complexities, accept an invitation to intimacy, meet with God and see (life) through His loving eyes.

Griffiths, who was speaking recently at the Youth Week of Prayer in the Asia District of Churches, said the Bible is a guide that must be searched with a pureness of heart. “How can we make the best decision when we are woven in a web of confliction? The best decision from man’s perspective is not necessarily the best decision from God. The Bible does not give clear step-by-step instruction for every aspect our lives, (and) even if the Bible gives specific instruction for everything, we would still somehow fail to follow it.”

In supporting his point, he gave this example: “There is this food that I used to love – mac and cheese. Yes, pretty easy to cook, but there I was in a kitchen with the step-by-step instructions on the box and not for the life of me could I prepare it! Up to this day, I can’t prepare macaroni and cheese.”

However, he said, the Bible is far richer and more useful than a do-it-yourself manual for life. It is an invitation from God to serve Him and find Him in every situation, as it is filled with detailed pictures of His loving character.

“I heard an old preacher say that we must stick to one passage of the Bible until we know what the message is saying. It makes no sense we have a biblical marathon and we don’t understand a thing it is saying.”

He said to know God’s word is to know what love truly is.

“Of all the love in the universe, it is such a privilege to know that you can come face to face with God; sit and have a conversation with God, reason with Him. The best person to get instruction from is the person who has never done wrong and one who has your best interest at heart.”

But, how do I talk to God and know He’s listening? The young preacher says read the word and we will understand Him.

“The more intimately we know God, the more deeply we express our love. When we view our messy lives from God’s loving and patient perspective, we are more likely to make wise decisions. We will act from a place of love than of ego.

“An all-powerful God, the creator of the universe who could have destroyed us from the beginning, who could have cut us down, came down and died for us – isn’t that love?

“As you study His word, ask that He reveal His love to you and share His love through you,” he ended.
