Gordon wins ‘challenging’ GC Foster 5K

GC FOSTER College’s Garfield Gordon continued his excellent form on the road this season after being the overall winner of the fourth staging of the GC Foster College 5K/Run/Walk Road Race in Angels, Spanish Town, yesterday. Fresh off his win the previous week at the Mico Pump It Up 5K event, Gordon stopped the clock at 14:29.00 minutes to be the first male to cross the finish line. Despite what was considered by some as a short route because of questions raised about its measurement, Gordon still set a fast time relative to the distance. Oshane Archibald, 14:41, and Daniel Glave, 15:15, ended second and third, respectively, to complete a clean sweep for GC Foster.

STERN TEST

Unlike the previous week when he won unchallenged, Gordon got his sternest test of the season from teammate and former winner of the event Archibald. The event had a new starting site, just below the college gate on the main road, to avoid athletes going through the zone of special operation in Spanish Town. It saw both Gordon and Archibald in a tight tussle for the majority of the route before the inform Gordon found something extra at the approach of the college gate to move away from his rival in the end for another victory.

Gordon was pleased with his win and admitted that it was not that easy this time around for him. “Of all the races I have competed in since September, this has been the most challenging one for me,” he said. “My plan was to go away early from Archibald, but he did not allow me to do so. It was the last 200m of the race where I was able to shake him off him, and I think running more races than him this season helped me in the end.” Gordon stated that his next event on the road will be the Reggae Marathon next month, where he will compete in the 10K.
