CB Group secures win in recycling competition

-

THE CB Group has emerged winner of the second staging of the Wisynco Eco Recycle Challenge, hosted by Wisynco Eco, the corporate social responsibility arm of the Wisynco Group.

The announcement was made last week at the CB Group Head Office in Kingston when the Wisynco team, alongside the ‘recycling plastic feels fantastic’ dancers, brought the vibes to the surprise handover of prize to the CB team.

“The CB Group has been on a mission to ‘live better’ in everything we do. Because we believe Living Better means doing our part to care for our environment, we entered Wisynco’s corporate recycling challenge hoping to educate and inspire our communities to Live Better with us by recycling plastics,” said Brian Royes, project specialist with the CB Group, as they embraced their win and proudly accepted the prize of $200,000 towards a charity of their choice to be used for any environmental initiatives.

The Recycle Challenge saw its first staging earlier this year and is aimed at engaging Jamaicans in sustainability efforts by making recycling fun and achievable. The competition challenges six corporate companies to pledge aid in the collection of plastic bottles in order to not only clean up Jamaica, but to encourage social and civic responsibility.

The other challengers involved in this staging of the competition included second-place winner, Stewart’s Automotive Group, and third-place winner, Jamaica Observer, Digicel Jamaica, JFF and One Hundred.

“It was great to see our corporate challengers stepping up once more to play their part in the collection and recycling of plastic in our country. This staging we had a goal of 300,000 plastic bottles to be collected within the threemonth period, and impressively, the challengers exceeded that goal,” said Wisynco environment communications officer, Shelly-Ann Dunkley.

“CB Foods did a fantastic job by accumulating approximately 110,592 plastic bottles alone. This goes to show that Wisynco’s efforts to change the culture in Jamaica and continue to create awareness of our national waste management issues are being achieved through these initiatives,” she added.

PROOF OF COMMITMENT

The win, according to the CB Group, is proof of its commitment to playing their role in creating a more sustainable Jamaica.

“CB Group is happy to have participated in Wisynco’s corporate recycling challenge, and we are even more proud to have won. We are always seeking ways to encourage others to live better and to live better ourselves,” noted Royes.

“Winning this competition means we are one step closer to a culture of recycling, having helped raise awareness of Jamaica’s plastic waste problem across the island. We hope to keep this momentum going by donating the prize to two organisations: Dare to Care, an apostolate of the Mustard Seed Communities, and St Simon’s Primary School in Hanover, to drive environmentally safe and responsible initiatives communities,” he added.

Wisynco’s Recycle Challenge will recommence in 2019, where the aim is to get the public sector involved in recycling.

“The corporate companies did so well for both stagings of the competition, exceeding the collection goal both times. We think it’s a great move to now challenge the public sector in this way to show just how fantastic recycling can be for everyone,” said Dunkley. in these
