Transition Time to rebound
AVERY knotty 1000 metres straight race for four-year-old and upwards maidens will open tomorrow’s Sunrise-Six at Caymanas Park.
GENERAL MUBARAAK will report with the best form but has been proving a bit expensive to follow. In addition, he is not suited to this quick sprint and therefore will have to be bypassed. MOVIE STAR also has fairly good form, but would also like it much longer. My selection is EMPEROR’S TREASURE to be ridden by the ace sprint jockey Wesley Henry.
By Emperor Hall – Marque Treasure the four-year-old filly showed improved form when finishing sixth by eight lengths to Laguna Point in open $180,000 claiming on October 6. Her final time in the 800 metres straight event was 49.0 seconds. This was her first real sign of ability, and with her connections opting for Henry, the hint should be taken.
The handicaps are strongly in her favour and MRS AWESOME should have too much pace for her rivals in Race Two over 1000 metres round. In her last two starts MRS AWESOME was much too heavy at 55kg and weakened late in both events.
She is now back down to 50kg, courtesy of apprentice Anthony Allen’s 4kg claim and will be hard to beat. The selection finished well behind SQUIT when they met on November 14 but there is now a 22lb swing in favour of MRS AWESOME. The reduced distance is also in her favour. Most competition should come from FREEDOM FOR EDS. The latter was a late non-starter due to lameness in August and returns with top veteran jockey Shane Ellis in the saddle. This suggests that FREEDOM FOR EDS will be coming to produce a big effort and must be respected.
CONSECUTIVE WINS
DUNROBIN, a winner over 800m straight on November 24, will be looking to make it three in a row in the third over 1000m straight. The four-yearold did just enough to get the better of OK Dude and can make it three wins out of four starts tomorrow.
My idea of the winner, however, is the well-drawn TRANSITION TIME who will break out of gate 10. TRANSITION TIME registered consecutive wins on August 6 and October 31, but could only manage fifth, as the even money favourite against non-winners of three in her last run.
CAT’S RIGGER and BIG PAUL, who finished in front of TRANSITION TIME on November 21, are back to contest this 1000 metres straight event, but are now higher in the handicaps. Leading rider Anthony Thomas, who piloted TRANSITION TIME home in his two wins, remains aboard and should make no mistake.
JAMMIN came well-prepared on November 24, but ran into smart newcomer DISTRICT ATTORNEY and lost by a neck over 1000 metres round. The winner and runner-up both clocked 1:00.4 while finishing nine lengths ahead of the rest of the field. The Wayne Parchment-trained filly has continued to work well since that run and should get off the mark in tomorrow’s 1000 metres straight event.
Title-chasing trainer Anthony Nunes should take the final two races in the Sunrise-Six with STIR IT UP and UNIVERSAL BOSS.
