Are you being the best you can be?

-

AS WE move into the new year, we should pause to ask: Am I being the best that I can be? Here are seven potentially transformational thoughts for your consideration:

VISION

What is the vision for your life?

If we are lost in a desert, establishing the direction in which safety lies is critical. We need to bring a similar level of direction to our lives.

Have you identified an overarching purpose for your life?

Identifying your purpose raises the question of ‘Why am I here?’

Solomon concluded that when all things are considered, we should fear God and keep His commandments “for it is the duty of all mankind.” (Ecclesiastes 12:13)

If your purpose is anchored on God, wise counsel suggests that you are pointed in the right direction.

CONFIDENCE WISDOM AND DISCERNMENT SUPPORT TREVOR SMITH

Are you going through life with confidence?

Is there a sense of certainty and assurance in your decision-making and in how you present yourself?

Do you consistently demonstrate high levels of self-esteem?

If you are bogged down in self-doubt and a lack of confidence, you are not being the best you can be!

Confidence is not the same as arrogance. Don’t fly in the face of danger and adversity.

Make wise choices. Stay clear of potentially dangerous situations.

To be the best that you can be, you should not overestimate your ability to cope with the challenges that you will face.

What is your favoured operating style when you encounter challenges?

Do you prefer to tough it out on your own, or do you seek support and assistance?

Independent thought and courage are key ingredients in being the best that we can be. At the same time, we are not intended to be islands unto ourselves.

Set up support mechanisms and seek out the specific input of wise and like-minded individuals who are firmly grounded.

“The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice.” (Proverbs 12:15)

When animals move in closely knit packs, predators fail to get those at the centre. There is safety in numbers.

FULFILMENT

Do you have in place clear strategies for living a fulfilled life?

Do you accept at a deeper-than-intellectual level that the universe is characterised more by abundance than scarcity?

Do you hold firm to the view that the way to get more is to give more?

How do you feel about the idea that if you desire something in your life, the best way to go about getting it is to start giving to others?

Sharing and giving to others is a sure way to achieve personal fulfilment. Giving and sharing produce immense personal benefits.

Shift focus from your problems to assist others. Sharing opens possibilities that you might not even have imagined.

IMAGE

Are you happy with the image that you are presenting to the world?

This goes beyond mere physical appearance, although that is important.

People respond to the vibe that they get from us. If we send out positive vibe, our chances of achieving excellence is better.

People who are well liked seem to have an advantage. Others appear more willing to help them.

On the other hand, people who present low-impact images are often overlooked and miss out on opportunities. The capacity to influence others is critical for success.

We shape our own destiny!

GOAL ATTAINMENT

How effective are you in setting, monitoring and achieving goals?

Are you patient and focused on long term goals and not just short-term gratification?

Whatever your current situation, it is not too late. You can still be the best that you can be.

Commit to the worthy goals. Refuse to be distracted or demotivated. Show total dedication.

Be diligent. You cannot be the best you can be if you are slothful. Be persistent.

To do less is to fail to be the best we can be.
