Edwards pinpoints attacking improvement

TIVOLI GARDENS FC’s head coach, Omar Edwards, said he has been working assiduously to improve his team’s offensive unit ahead of the restart of the Red Stripe Premier League on January 6.

Tivoli, who are currently sixth in the standings with 25 points, have scored 19 goals while conceding 17 in the competition. Colorado Murray is Tivoli’s leading scorer so far this season with seven goals.

Edwards said his team has been creating many scoring chances in front of goal, but poor finishing and lack of concentration have been their downfall.

“The aim is to improve the offensive thrust of the team,” Edwards said. “Attacking wise, we are not scoring as many goals as we have created and as a result of that, we have to do some significant work in the final third of the pitch to ensure that we can move up the table,” he said.

CAN IMPROVE

“One of the coaching staff’s major objectives is to improve the team tactically, and once we can improve the team tactically, then I believe that everything will fall into place,” Edwards said.

Edwards added that his team will be boosted significantly when competition begins this weekend, as a number of their starting players will be returning from injury, as well as a couple of youth players will be coming in from the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup tournament.

“We will have to move steadily up the table in the new year,” he said. “We are not in a safe position and as a result of this, the team is aware of this. We will be working relentlessly to get as many points as possible in the new year so that we can improve our overall points standings.”
