Wild Cane community centre to be completed in first quarter

THE CONSTRUCTION of a community centre in Wild Cane district in St Ann South West, which started several years ago, might finally be completed in the first quarter of this year.

Councillor for the Borobridge division in the St Ann Municipal Corporation, Winston Brown, told The Gleaner that help has come recently from a source overseas, which enabled construction to resume.

“This community centre started years ago. We’re now getting some overseas assistance, since a month ago, so we’re trying to see if we can complete it,” Brown said.

“We’re hoping it will be completed in the next two to three months.”

The community centre serves residents of Wild Cane, Cascade and surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, Brown is waiting on additional funding to complete his Legacy Project, as mandated by the St Ann Municipal Corporation.

Brown has chosen to create a playing field for residents in Cascade and has managed to complete around 60 per cent of the project.

“The legacy project in Cascade is almost 60 per cent,” he pointed out. “We have completed a section which is now being used to play football. My plan is to use the next legacy project and complete the entire project.”

When completed, the facility will have a multipurpose court for netball, volleyball and other such sporting activities.
