‘Golden Triangle’ or ‘Ghetto Triangle’?

-

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE GOLDEN Triangle spans Hope Road, Trafalgar Road, Old Hope Road and stops at Liguanea. It is for only residential developments. My issue is with 71 Lady Musgrave Road.

I can recall in years gone by that the property had an old house that sold antique furniture, etc, then a veterinary clinic, then a wholesale/retail seafood business; and, currently, The Courtyard.

I am befuddled as to how approval could have been given to the operation of a bar/club that is not confined to an enclosed area. How insensitive and inconsiderate can business owners be? I am positive that they would not accept it if it were in communities like Cherry Gardens and Jacks Hill.

There are residents who live in earshot of this bar/club who have to accept being tortured on a weekly basis with the loud music that permeates the quiet nights until 2:30 a.m., which was experienced as recently as Thursday and Friday of last week.

There are working professionals and children who live in and around the area who would love to enjoy a good night’s rest after a hard day at work and school in preparation for the next day. There are also persons who worked very hard to purchase their homes more than 30 years ago, who are now retired and into their golden years, who live off a modest pension, who have nowhere else to go and who just want to live their last years in peace and quiet. Is that too much to ask for?

This was a nice and quiet neighbourhood until six to seven years ago. I am asking for Peter Knight, CEO of NEPA; Kingston Mayor Delroy Williams; Town Clerk Robert Hill; and Police Commissioner Antony Anderson to look into this matter. The residents who live in and around 71 Lady Musgrave Road have been suffering for a few years now, and life is already stressful as it is.

Carnival time is approaching, and the noise nuisance will be more frequent. In the past, there were protesters who demanded that the Golden Triangle remain only for residential developments but have reached nowhere. Is it then true of the saying, “Money talks, b*@@%&!t walks?”
