DENGUE prevention tips from BUG OFF

-

How does the dengue virus spread?

THE VIRUS spreads through mosquito bites and is transmitted when a mosquito (of the Aedes aegypti species) bites a human who is infected with the dengue virus in their blood. This mosquito becomes a carrier of the disease and can later transmit the dengue virus to healthy persons by biting them.

Bug Off tips

Burn Bug Off mosquito coils in a ventilated area for a mosquitofree zone.

To help prevent mosquito breeding, empty and disinfect items that can hold water in your home, such as flower pots and trash cans. Outside the home, mosquitoes can breed in drains, bird baths and discarded containers; check to ensure there are no breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

Wear long-sleeve shirts and pants which are light coloured and loose fitting. Protect your children by dressing them in clothing which covers their arms and legs. Use mosquito netting to cover cribs and baby strollers.

Sweat and perfume are mosquito-attracting smells; remove excess sweat by showering and using unscented soaps.

Ensure door screens and windows are free of holes to help prevent mosquitoes from getting inside the home.

If possible, avoid outdoor activities and avoid visiting areas prone to mosquitoes

Use air conditioning when available.
