1964:John Director of Tourism Pringle’s first Jamaica Jamboree Golf Tournament, which ends at the Half Moon Rose Hall golf course, proves a resounding success. Our reporter on the spot phoned in to say that the American and Canadian visitors, who formed the bulk of 19 teams taking part, were enthusiast­ic in their praises of the Jamaican courses, the Jamaican climate and conditions, and most of them and their wives declare their intention of returning in 1965.

1970:A ten-man team from the Inter-American Developmen­t Bank (IADB), of which Jamaica recently becomes a member, arrives at the Palisadoes Airport over the weekend, the majority arriving today by Eastern Airlines from Washington. The group will hold discussion­s with Jamaican officials on implementa­tion of three projects planned when Mr Felipe Herrera, the president of the IDB, was in the island on a recent visit. The projects concern a loan scheme for small farmers, a student loan scheme to enable more students to pursue higher education and a global or multisecto­r loan to the Jamaica Developmen­t Bank to be used in a number of areas.

1983:Jamaica’s import budget for 1983 is set at US $1502 million, a total of US $57 million above the estimated figure of US $1445-million for 1982, Prime Minister Edward Seaga discloses. Of the total 1983 import budget, raw materials and capital goods are allocated US$860 million, some US$581m more than the existing amount of US $779 million for 1982.

1982.The allocation for the importatio­n of consumer goods is reduced by US$l2million, bringing the total imports for this group in 1983 to US $200 million. There has been a marginal reduction in the allocation for fuel and bauxite imports in 1983 over 1982.
