Upholding the ideals of The Mico University College

- ASBURN PINNOCK President The Mico University College

THE MICO Old Students’ Association (MOSA) has been committed to providing ‘Leadership Service’ to others, and ‘integrity and excellence’ in performance since 1922, and in so doing, has maintained the core values of The Mico University College.

In its 97-year history, MOSA has provided outstanding service to the field of education, nation building and the global community; and has demonstrated its invaluable contribution to the University College. The worth of any institution must be in its alumni. It was John F. Kennedy who said, “The success of any school can be measured by the contribution the alumni make to national life”. The Mico University College and MOSA have therefore proven their worth and can be proud to name among their alumni, The Hon Edwin Allen, former minister of Education; Professor Claude Packer, first President, The Mico University College, Sir Clifford Campbell and Sir Howard Cooke, former governors general, all of whom have had a significant impact on our country.

MOSA continues to be an ambassador for the University College and provides a meaningful network among graduates. It has provided valuable information and direction to the University College, gleaned from the wealth of experience among its graduates. It has established its commitment to the success of the current students through funding of scholarships and grants, which is especially critical as some students could not have enrolled or continued without the support of MOSA.

My charge to the Miconians in Jamaica and abroad is to ‘get on board’, join the alumni association, become a part of MOSA and give back. The investment will be worth it. It will only be through you that the traditions of The Mico will live on; and it is only when we collectively ‘Do It With Our Might’, that this Association of 97 years will remain relevant, significant, and continue its contribution to nation building in Jamaica and its community service across the Jamaican diaspora. Congratulations on your achievements over the years, and thank you for your invaluable contribution to The Mico and Jamaica.
