THE EDITOR, Sir:

TONY BECCA has been a pivotal part of our sporting experience for nearly 50 years. This dynamic sports aficionado has been very vocal in the passing on of the requisite knowledge of the sport of cricket to many generations of enthusiastic students of cricket.

This is a man who is admired on all the continents that play the beautiful game of cricket. The impact he has had on the game is immeasurable, and it goes to show how this great sports writer has captivated the mindset of every conceivable Jamaican of the neo-colonial era. He has written extensively on the great impact West Indies cricket has had on the world stage.

TREMENDOUS IMPACT

We ought to be mindful of the magnificent, tremendous, and comprehensive impact he has had on youngsters in the past, coming in this very era. He was very accurate and precise in the dissemination of information on cricket in the West Indies. He has been a standard-bearer of excellence for the execution of valuable sporting information about the greatness of our players.

Mr Becca also devised strategies that could be used to enhance the capacity of our players to improve their craft. We knew him to be a very humble and knowledgeable man about cricket who possessed a reservoir of knowledge about the beautiful game.

His passing has sparked strong debate about this trendsetter who has been instrumental in creating a favourable environment for cricketing.

His incisive depiction of what has transpired in the Caribbean cricket, and the wider world, will be missed.

Surely, he will not be easily replaced, and we are hoping to celebrate his life with distinction.

He was such a futuristic sports writer, one could never imagine him trying to hide the truth from his readers.

He was very reliable.

May his soul rest in peace and the light of eternal hope shine upon him and give him peace. PARIS TAYLOR Greater Portmore paristaylor82@hotmail.com
