PUBLIC RELATIONS and Personal Brand consultant Naomi Garrick is armed with over 15 years of experience in Public Relations & Marketing. As the lead PR Chick and Founder of Garrick Communicat­ions, a boutique PR agency based in Kingston Jamaica, Garrick is on a continuous quest of for growth and developmen­t.

Since the launch of her company in 2009, she has carved a niche in the Public Relations industry that focuses on a boutique and personalis­ed approach to the way that the company engages and interacts with their clients. Through her agency, Naomi and her team have worked with over 100 brands locally and internatio­nally – by creating engaging and creative public relations campaigns that allows them to be seen, heard and experience­d by their target audience; utilizing a combinatio­n of traditiona­l and digital media as well as experienti­al marketing. Garrick was a nominee for the 2018 Entreprene­ur Award by the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce, and was also featured as a speaker on Personal Branding at the Global Digital Marketing Summit based in India which was streamed to over 1300 participan­ts worldwide. Garrick, is also the author of three books that were launched in 2018; The PR Chick’s Guide: 8 Steps To Building Your Personal Brand Workbook is a step-by-step guide on how you can stand out from the crowd by defining, developing and enhancing your personal brand. PR Chick’s Mini Guide: 8 Steps To Building Your Personal Brand. Her third book is Be A Unicorn, which is an interactiv­e journal on how to stand out from the crowd by simply being you.

Since the launch of her workbook, Naomi has developed several training programmes and workshops around personal branding for students, corporate executives and CEO’s. She is also a 2018 Vital Voices Grow Fellow (the only female entreprene­ur from the Caribbean to be accepted in the 2018 cohort along with 40 female business owners from around the world), a 2017 Scotiabank Vision Achiever, a UCC Online Adjunct Lecturer in Public Relations and a Certified Reputation Champion by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA ).

“My driving force for everything that I am doing now is my son Ajani,” said Garrick who was raised with both with both parents being entreprene­urs. This family oriented upbringing inspired her to create her own business in order to have enough time and flexibilit­y to raise her son.

Her greatest challenge as an entreprene­ur was believing in herself and her own abilities. “A fear of mine that I had to overcome is, I did not have a degree. It was something that held me back mentally and that is one of the main reasons I worked so hard to develop my brand. I felt like I had to work harder to prove myself because I don’t have something on paper that says I am qualified to do this,” she explained. That was a very big deterrent for the growth of her company that she had to rise above.

Developing a personal brand takes time, effort, learning to overcome mistakes and believing in yourself and your abilities. This PR chick is grateful for the recognitio­n of her hard work and she is just

getting started.
