LEGAL EAGLE Rene Gayle
WITH EACH breath she takes, attorney-at-law Rene Gayle is fearlessly pursuing her passion.
She’s the assistant general manager of the legal affairs and corporate secretary of the legal affairs at a prominent financial services institution in Jamaica.

The 30-year-old lifelong learner constantly pines to develop herself. It’s a process and growth, which she shares with others. Her profession has afforded her more than she had bargained for. For instance, it has opened her eyes and caused her to recognise a sense of Caribbean identity, that completes her existence. Before she was just a Jamaica.
“I’ve learnt so much while studying. I remember when we [the class] would enter competitions we had never thought about, like the Inter American Moot Court competition, where I was awarded as the Best Advocate in English. I’ve learnt to shatter self doubts and go for it. This is how I live my life. I just put my best foot forward and if the world rewards me for it then all the better, that’s just the cherry on top,” the introvert said.

Gayle, an absolute legal eagle always looks forward to helping others, especially the vulnerable. It’s a perk of her career, that helps to define the person she is.
“It’s important for me to use my God given talent and impact others. Laws is my vehicle and the fact that I have the opportunity to give back is what I like the most about my profession. A lot of people may be disenfranchised or might not be aware of their legal rights. I offer advise on topical issues to help empower people,” she said
She’s sat on several sub-committees of the Jamaica bar Association and has honed a wealth of experience from other positions she held, for example in Common Law and Dispute Resolution. She’s also worked in Commercial Department of Myers and Fletchers and Gordon. And is currently an adjunct lecturer at the Faculty of Law at the University of the West Indies.

Gayle is an avid reader. She gets immense pleasure from the activity, but has confessed that she had abandon reading for amusement because of the reading requirements for work and while studying. The professional has set a number of goals she wants to achieve this year. She’s added 19 books to this list.
