I will not be muzzled, Mr Reid

THE EDITOR, Sir: DEAR RUEL Reid, the answer is no! No, I am not going to stop talking to and teaching my students about the ailing Jamaican political landscape and culture. As much as this would suit you politically and satisfy the furtherance of your objective to keep our young minds docile and myopic, I find that I have a strong moral obligation to fulsomely educate our young, engage them in life-changing, meaningful discourse and stimulate logical and rational thinking.

I am afraid that I will not be muzzled. I cannot sit by and watch the malignant status quo being maintained, creating generations of mindless drones with their only knowledge of why their political system doesn’t seem to work for them, coming from the previous generation who themselves didn’t know the truth to tell, or from the very politicians who designed it to keep them ignorant.

I refuse to see minds go about not understanding the power they have outside of the box food, Guinness and the random amount rolled up in T’shirts at the next political campaign rally.

I am on a singular mission to break up the base, destroy the tribalism and usher in truth-seeking, inquisitive minds.

So, go ahead, laugh at my seemingly feeble attempt to reconstruct our politics. You are going to live long enough to hear and see robust discussions on the street corners and across social media about the benefits and pitfalls of socialist versus capitalist ideologies.

Then young minds will be able to decide for themselves and not have you tell them your version of their truth. But never, ever you underestimate the power of a dripping tap into that bucket of disgustingly filthy water. TEACHER ON A MISSION
