14 members of Girlz’ World Cup squad to be selected shortly
Price: Everybody wants to be included, and so everybody is putting in their utmost
ASSISTANT COACH Andrew Price says that 14 members of the Reggae Girlz’ 23-player squad to this year’s FIFA Women’s Cup tournament in France will be selected shortly.
Price said that the coaches were very impressed with the Reggae Girlz’ performance in their twomatch friendly series against South American country Chile, and so they have decided that they will be announcing 14 members of the squad who will be making the trip to France this summer very soon.
“I believe that it will be in short order. We will let the players know who has been selected to that final 14,” said Price.
“There is another training camp in April, and so there is still an opportunity for other players to be selected,” he said.
“I think, based on the last two training camps, we believe that we will come up with a cadre of about 14 to 16 players who will definitely make the trip to France,” Price said.
The Reggae Girlz, who are ranked 53rd in the world, defeated the Chileans 1-0 in the opening match at the National Stadium, before clipping their opponents 3-2 in a second match three days later in Montego Bay.
GIRLZ RESILIENT
“I believed the team showed a bit of resilience against the Chileans, and we just want to improve our fitness and our understanding,” said Price.
The veteran coach added that all 24 players were utilised during both matches against Chile, and they will have another chance to impress the coaching staff at their camp, which will take place in South Africa from April 1-9.
“Everybody wants to be included, and so everybody is putting in their utmost. All the players want to make that trip to France,” said Price.
“I think it is good when the coaches have a difficulty in selecting the team as it is very competitive and that is what we want,” Price stated.
The Jamaicans are drawn in Group C of the 2019 FIFA World Cup Finals alongside Italy, Brazil, and Australia.
