The Broadcasting Commission wants oversight responsibility for social media platforms like Facebook and YouTube in Jamaica to stop online bullying and control the sharing of graphic materials and fake news items. Do you agree that social media site should be regulated?

So Jamaica is an authoritarian nation? Traditional media in Jamaica lobbying for policing freedom of speech on social media. How they want the Government to police the Internet when they can barely police the damn nation itself. – @onlyAyinde

You can create acts of Parliament to prosecute cyberbullying, sharing of graphic images. However the BC is seeking to further its interests and “level the playing field” for traditional media, which is failing to adapt to the digital age! – @stevechrisjohn

Regulate Jamaica! You have most of the island swimming in blood and filth ... . – @warndem

U mean the same JLP that largely used social media to win an election? They ain’t gonna let this fly. – @SimpsSean

Just as the Opposition propoganda machine is broken down on social media, they cannot get any traction. In comes the knight in shining armour to police the sites. Your undercoat is showing. – @messam_m

Broadcasting Commission needs to deal with ISPs @DIGICELJamaica @FLOWJamaica ISP cartel first. Sounds like bigger heads crying using govt agencies to silence critics. – @R3N0GAMBL3

Wouldn’t this amount to censorship? Was Jamaica not lauded just recently for scoring among highest marks in the hemisphere for press freedom? There are enough legal remedies in place for anyone wronged on social media. Please take a seat, sir. In fact, take two seats. Thank you. – @zemi66
