Sagicor Foundation – caring, inspiring, serving
SAGICOR FOUNDATION, the charitable arm of Sagicor Group Jamaica, has a robust and lively corporate social responsibility programme, which focuses on health and education. With the mantra ‘Caring, Inspiring, Serving’, the Sagicor Foundation aims to fulfil the group’s vision of being ‘a great company committed to improving the lives of people in the communities in which we operate’.
Through its many initiatives, the Sagicor Foundation touches the lives of hundreds of thousands of individuals across the length and breadth of Jamaica.
The Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run, the biggest charity event on the foundation’s calendar, raises millions of dollars to procure much-needed equipment for health and child-related institutions. Now in its 21st year, the largest road race in the Caribbean has raised over $350 million for approximately 30 beneficiaries.
Other health-related initiatives carried out by the foundation include its annual Community Health Tour, which utilises the Sagicor Wellness Bus and team of nurses to provide free health checks to persons in various communities across the island. The foundation also provides on-going assistance to the Jamaica Cancer Society through support for its fundraising events – Relay for Life and Keeping Abreast Luncheon.
Through its support for educational initiatives, the Sagicor Foundation manages an adopt-a-school programme, which focuses on assisting early-childhood institutions with improving its overall teaching/ learning environment, primarily in the area of physical upgrades to the schools’ infrastructural development. In addition to upgrading the schools’ facilities, the foundation also hosts numerous activities throughout the school year to engage the children.
The foundation also has a scholarship programme that provides financial assistance to students both at the secondary and tertiary levels. Each year, over 70 new scholarships are disbursed with an equivalent number being renewed.
With a volunteer pool of over 400-strong Sagicor team members, the foundation also participates in an annual Labour Day project to enhance and beautify the surroundings of local community stakeholders – including schools, health centres and community centres.
Our volunteers also play a significant role at the annual Jamaica Teachers’ Association National Athletic Championship, held at the National Stadium over two days, which features over 1,200 student athletes representing their parishes for the championship title.
