NWC under the microscope

MAY PEN, CLARENDON:

The National Water Commission (NWC) was again put into the hot seat as mayor of May Pen Winston Maragh and some councillors questioned the service to their divisions at the monthly sitting of the Clarendon Municipal Corporation.

The mayor reported that Rocky Point and Mitchell Town have been without water for the past two weeks, resulting in the closure of the Rocky Point Clinic.

“A promise was made to send water down to the health centre. We prepared black tanks, and everything down there waiting, and, it’s been two weeks now, and that truck don’t reach yet,” he said.

However, the mayor was reminded by the NWC representative, Phabian Haynes, that the issue with the parish should be contacted about any. He also said that a truck had been sent with water to the clinic that morning.

Last month, Councillor Collin Henry expressed dissatisfaction with the utility company. However, on Thursday, he praised the team.

Henry commended The Gleaner for highlighting the issue, stating that he believed that it is the reason they got the attention they needed.

He said that after the story was published, a team worked on the leaks and other issues. “In fact, they were there for three days, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, and they did some good work as it relates to the leaking and so forth. I want to say thanks because we dealing with it for months, and nothing has been done. As soon as it came out in the paper, they responded, but I must commend them for the work that they have been doing in the area to improve the system,” Henry stated.
