Reason for remembering Christ death

THE EDITOR, Sir:

AS SPRING begins and the death and resurrection of Jesus become fresh in the mind, it is quite sobering and critical to bear in mind that this moment in time is epic – it is a crossroads, a turning point from a course on which all mankind was headed after Adam and his wife sold us into sin and certain death (Romans 5: 12).

Can you imagine being born in a world in which each new step you took only lead to the insatiable grave till someone stepped in and avert this destiny?

What other reason in life could there be for our eternal praise and gratitude than this beautiful prize that saves this world from years of misery and our bleak departure?

This is a jewel of a gift that reaches from the epitome of the most horrendous pain and suffering ever imagined to present to us everlasting life, even while we were enemies of God. If this is not love, I know not what love is (John 3: 16).

This time should be a pondering on God’s liberal mercy and large-heartedness to us that we ought to respond to beyond our own abstinence or self-denial.

Reflection on this occasion should neither be about self-indulgence nor self denial that fade with the season, but about modestly and humbly responding to God’s love with genuine gratitude and sincerity.

For as Micah 6:8 says
