JFF expecting Gold Cup windfall
GENERAL SECRETARY of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Dalton Wint says that the Concacaf Gold Cup double-header set to take place in Jamaica, for the first time in the tournament’s history, should provide some direct financial benefits to the country and the football federation.
Wint, however, admitted that the JFF is still uncertain about how much they will gain from the fixtures, which will take place at the National Stadium on June 17, as they are yet to have any discussion with organisers, Concacaf, on the subject.
“Concacaf will handle most of that, in terms of the financial part of it,” Wint said. “We have not yet seen any breakdown as it relates to that. They will be responsible for finalising things and the majority of that.”
However, he noted that there will be a local organising committee, working out of the JFF, that will be compensated for their work. He also expects a direct financial boost for the federation. But how much they will benefit will depend on arrangements with the regional governing body, Concacaf.
“We have (JFF) not sat down to have this discussion and how financial benefits will go, but whatever obtains in other jurisdictions will be offered to us. It is something we are looking forward to, and it is definitely something that will assist our football programme in every way,” he said.
On Tuesday, president of Concacaf, Victor Montagliani, announced that Jamaica would, on June 17, host two Group C Gold Cup games at the National Stadium in Kingston.
