Word of Hope Adventists adopt St Ann’s Bay male surgical ward

- Carl Gilchrist/Gleaner Writer

APPLYING THE mantra, ‘it is better to serve than to be served’, approximately 20 young members of the Word of Hope Seventh-day Adventist Church in Drax Hall, St Ann, have adopted the male surgical ward at the St Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital.

The youngsters, calling themselves Youths in Ministry (YIMs), used the annual Global Youth Day event, held recently, to “go out and be the hands and feet of Jesus” by providing muchneeded services to members of the community that they serve, a release from the church stated.

Describing the Word of Hope building as a small board structure full of love, with a membership of nearly 200, the release said that the YIMs were fired up and ready to serve.

Donning shirts with the phrase ‘Be the Sermon’, the group began the day by journeying to the nearby community of Steer Town to hand out literature and food and

to share stories of the goodness of Christ in their lives.

The enthusiasm increased as they shifted their focus to the hospital, where they served more than 40 patients on the ward.

The young people prayed with patients and handed out items to them. “In a world where young people seem to be focused on the things of this world, these youth seemed to only care about these persons they were seeing for the first time,” the release said.

“The theme that rang out among the youth is that it is better to serve than be served, and this will be their mantra as they continue to visit and impact lives on the ward that they have now adopted,” it continued.

There was an outpouring of gratefulness from beneficiaries and from staff on the ward, to the heart-warming gesture of the YIMs.
