Spry Training issues challenge to be Angels of Love
STACEY HALSALL-PEART, chief operating officer of Advanced Integrated Systems Limited, has always been passionate about the health of children, so when her Spry Training group issued a challenge to its participants to support the Angels of Love Foundation, she jumped at the opportunity.
On Friday, April 5, standing by her commitment, she participated in a one-mile swim challenge at the YMCA pool to raise awareness and funds for children living with cancer. Accompanied by her colleagues, Tracy Cowan, senior manager at Scotiabank, and Laura Matalon-Chandley, director of the Canon Ball Café, Halsall-Peart and her colleagues were delighted to swim for the little angels.
“I’ve had a friend whose nephew suffered from cancer, and I have seen first-hand what it can take a family through, especially when you don’t have the resources to get through it, so just a little help or money counts,” explained HalsallPeart . She added, “It’s also seldom that you get to do something good while still doing what you enjoy.”
Angels of Love is the main beneficiary of Spry Training’s annual charity polo event, to be held this Sunday. For this event, the organisers have issued challenges to its participants in the following categories: a kayaking (across the harbour) challenge, a ‘swim a mile’ challenge, a Blue Mountain hike challenge, a 10K run/hike (Robins
Bay) challenge, a 10K run/hike (Robin’s Bay) challenge, and a ice bath challenge. Participants are also challenged to make monetary pledges to Angels of Love.
The foundation focuses on children who are not privileged to attend regular school, socialise with other children, or live a normal life.
Cowan explained that Halsall-Peart motivated her to be part of this charity.
“I saw that it was for kids with cancer, and I know medication for cancer is ridiculously expensive. And I understand that the Angels of Love Foundation also helps with not just medication, but basic necessities that these children may need. What better way to stay fit while giving back to charity? It just touched my heart and also touched everybody’s heart who has donated,” she said.
Their families need financial help and support. Angels of Love Jamaica is a registered, nongovernmental, non-political, charitable organisation of generous individuals whose aim is to improve the lives of children living with cancer by providing lifesaving treatment, healthcare, education, and support services. The entity provides assistance to more than 50 disadvantaged, underprivileged and vulnerable children in Jamaica, and this number increases over time.
