JPS Energy of Jamaica Photo Competition winners announced
THE WINNERS of the JPS Energy of Jamaica Photo Competition have been announced. After weeks of public voting, internal deliberations and expert judging, Brittanie Martin emerged as the $100,000, winner with a photo entitled ‘Summer Days in Blue Mountain’.
Second place and $50,000 prize went to Robert Johnson for his entry entitled ‘Escuela Arc’, which depicts a lit ship docked in the Rockfort Harbour. Third-place winner Sanisha Allen won $25,000 for her photo ‘My Best View Ever’.
“JPS is happy to have created a platform for photographers from all walks of life in Jamaica to be able to showcase their art and bring public attention to their pieces,” said Winsome Callum, director, corporate communications and customer experience at JPS.
The winners say they share a common love and passion for photography. Martin is an up-and-coming photographer and a member of the Jamaica Photography Society. Johnson is a University lecturer by day but is a travel photographer when he is outside of the classroom.
KEEN EYE
Sanisha, who copped the third place prize, picked up photography as a hobby and grabs every opportunity to develop her skills in the area. Each of the participants has a keen eye capable of seeing the interesting in the mundane and has demonstrated an admirable level of skill.
Guest judge Jordache Jones from Dash Photography said that he was impressed with the general quality of the entries and the level of skill that was evident in their work.
