Reggae Girlz contracts still being examined by lawyers
JAMAICA FOOTBALL Federation (JFF) general secretary Dalton Wint says that the Reggae Girlz’s World Cup contract situation has still made no progress as the players’ lawyer is yet to respond to the deals offered.
“It’s a simple contract that we have generated. There are some
sticking points that we have that we are working through. They are exploring their part of it. We have sent the contract to them and they have not returned same, signed or otherwise. We don’t know at this time what the sticking points are because they have not yet come back to us, so we are waiting for their lawyer,” he said.
“But that (contract) should be settled before we go on that plane (to France). We should settle this by the time they come into camp for the Panama game (which will be played on May 19).”
Wint also addressed the matter of three footballers looking to switch allegiance to represent Jamaica at the FIFA Women’s World Cup next month. He said FIFA has requested greater clarification and more qualification regarding the players and their backgrounds.
ELIGIBILITY COMPLICATIONS
These three players, who have not been named, are having eligibility complications as they were born in another country and have represented that country. Although they qualify to play for Jamaica through parents or grandparents, it is very difficult to get clearance for them from FIFA when they have already represented the country of their birth.
But Wint said they have submitted all the necessary information that the world governing body has requested and continue to hope for the best.
“Up to yesterday, we were in correspondence with FIFA, and it’s for them to get back to us now,” he said.
Although he could not say with any conviction that these girls will be granted their release, he remains positive.
“We are having mixed feelings,” he said. “I think it might work out, but I am not a hundred per cent sure. But based on the information that FIFA has requested, and we have provided it, we hope it will be resolved shortly,” he said.
