Teachers impacting lives at St Patrick’s Foundation

- Keisha Hill/ Senior Gleaner Writer

TEACHERS PLAY an important role in our lives. At the St Patrick’s Foundation, the teachers are always going

above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that their students are familiar with the most up-to-date, innovative learning methods and to provide quality instruction to students.

“We know our students are committed to their learning, but our outcomes are better because of the patience and sacrifice of our teachers day in and day out. We are grateful for their unwavering commitment to the needs of our students. St Patrick’s Foundation would not be the same without them,” said Sandrina Davis, general manager, St Patrick’s Foundation.

According to Davis, three of their institutions, Riverton Meadows Early Childhood Centre, St Margaret’s Human Resource Centre and Christ the Redeemer Human Resource Centre, operate as education and training institutions.

“Our teachers nurture students’ learning and give them various experiences to face this challenging world. Our open-minded and well-balanced teachers bring a positive change in each student’s development. They nurture the skills, talents and interests of our students and settle comfortably in the role of third parent,” Davis said.

“In some senses, because our teachers spend so much time with the students, they become the students’ third parent. The teachers at St Patrick’s Foundation have been constant positive role models, particularly for those who lack a solid family foundation,” she added.

Teachers and students in the woodwork programme at St Margaret’s Human Resource Centre in Olympic Gardens and the cosmetology programme at Christ the Redeemer Human Resource Centre in Seaview Gardens have been doing extraordinarily well.

“I have always liked doing hair and make-up; it is my calling. Attending Christ the Redeemer Human Resource Centre has made me realise that my dreams can grow further than my verandah. I am now employed and better able to take care of my baby girl. My instructor, Roneague Gordon, was my biggest motivator. She believed in me more than I believed in myself. The experience was excellent,” said Annadine Douglas, cosmetology student.

At the St Margaret’s Human Resource Centre in Olympic Gardens, of the 15 students enrolled in the woodwork programme, 90 per cent received HEART Trust/NTA Level II certification, while 80 per cent of the cohort moved straight from work experience into permanent employment.

Meanwhile, at Christ the Redeemer Human Resource Centre in Seaview Gardens , 87 per cent of the cosmetology students received HEART Trust/NTA Level II certification, 50 per cent have gone on to further studies, and others are working in the cosmetology industry.
