Edna Manley students harassed by gossipers

-

THE EDITOR, Sir:

SINCE THE outcry over alleged sexual harassment or assault by a lecturer at Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, life for us students has taken a turn for the worse.

If the allegations are indeed true, it is rather unfortunate for this to have happened to the students and I pray for their recovery from the emotional trauma.

Recently, a conversation I was having turned into an interrogatory session.

I politely answered all the questions while steering clear of making assertions because I had no evidence. In a few moments, I went on trial and was accused of covering up crimes and even my status as a Christian was also questioned.

People want information, they want gossip, they want to know inside information. The moment this is not coming, they become judgemental, especially if they think you either know or you’re supposed to know. I became disturbed when I found out that a number of my schoolmates have suffered the same fate. The situation is pretty messy. I’m asking the public to stop treating Edna Manley students like we are criminals. We are hard-working artists who might be a part of a system that is currently under the microscope.

The information in the media should be enough to appease you. If not, feel free to either contact a media house or call the school’s office. Stop harassing the students!
