RUBIS ENERGY Jamaica is broadening the reach of its InPulse Art Programme based at Dunoon Technical High School in Kingston to welcome students from outside of the East Kingston vicinity to enrol in the community-aided programme.

According to RUBiS’s human resource manager, Donnovan Dobson: “Since we (RUBiS) started the programme in Jamaica in 2015, we have centred the recruitment process on budding artists from the East Kingston area. However, based on the positive impact and success the InPulse Programme has had on its participants, it is only fitting that we open up the project to young people from the greater Kingston.”

The RUBiS InPulse Art Programme awards scholarships to promising students to develop their talents further at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts. This is to assist project participants to pursue careers in the arts.

Project Manager Camille Chedda said, “InPulse provides young people with an opportunity to improve their lives through visual arts education led by local, regional, and international artists and teachers as well as general-purpose educational training through mathematics and English language.”

Since its launch in 2015, the RUBiS InPulse Art Programme, which falls under a larger global corporate social responsibility initiative spearheaded by the entity’s parent company, the RUBiS Mécénat Cultural Fund, has been developing lasting social art initiatives in its territories.

As part of the local programme, RUBiS has provided a renovated space at Dunoon where artists have access to computers, the Internet, art supplies, and photography equipment. Some students also benefit from participation in regional and international art and film exhibitions where they can further develop their skills and learn from other artists.

The programme, which will officially commence its fifth year in September 2019, benefits approximately 25 participants in each year between the ages of 15 and 30 years. Persons who wish to develop their creativity and deepen their knowledge in the world of art are invited to visit the Art Room at Dunoon Technical on September 14 or 15 between the hours of 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm.
