PNP, JLP one and the same

THE EDITOR, Sir:

PEOPLE’S NATIONAL Party (PNP), Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), no better herring, no better barrel. Six of one, half-dozen of the other.

When either party forms the Opposition, it sees all the things that need to be done for the people, but when it gets into Government, all that goes through the window.

Neither side’s actions encourage decent, responsible people to go to the polling station on election day. No wonder every general election, fewer and fewer people vote. I am of the opinion that the majority of our leaders go into politics to fatten their pockets. So we see sons follow fathers, and wives following husbands. Our political system is fast becoming royalty. No wonder there is so much corruption in our Government and perpetrators get away with a slap on the wrist.

FORGOTTEN PROMISE

Our prime minister seems to have forgotten the promise given in The Gleaner front-page story of March headlined ‘Cabinet warning: Holness pledges zero-tolerance approach to corruption’.

Politicians have also shown disregard for the business class. For more than two years, the Opposition, as well as corporate Jamaica, has been calling for a united approach to fighting crime. Now that the meeting has been held at the initiative of the Opposition, the attorney general has been trying to explain why the prime minister did not yield to the call. I don’t wish to hear her. She should be embarrassed.
