KC look to finish Dunoon job

- Daniel Wheeler/ Gleaner Writer

KINGSTON COLLEGE’S head coach, Ludlow Bernard, says that his team will be aiming to maintain their advantage when they face strugglers Dunoon Technical in a rescheduled ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup game at Breezy Castle today at 2 p.m.

The fixture is one of 10 rescheduled matches that were originally set for September 17 but were called off because of rain and lightning. In response to the frequent lightning and rain each afternoon, ISSA has changed the starting time of all Manning Cup games going forward to 2 o’clock.

In one of the other rescheduled games, the Group F feature match between Calabar High and St George’s College will resume at Red Hills Road, with both teams scoreless at half-time.

Kingston College and Dunoon will continue their encounter from the 55th minute with the defending champions leading 2-0 through goals from Christopher Pearson and Shayaun Gayle.

Bernard’s charges have registered two more wins against Cedar Grove and Kingston Technical since that rain-interrupted game and are running away with top spot in the group with 12 points.

FOCUSED

Bernard is focused on making sure that his team sees the game out professionally while seeking to come out unscathed by injuries.

“The main approach is to see out the game and maintain our advantage and also try to prevent unnecessary injuries because we have a challenging game coming up on the weekend [against Excelsior]. So we will be very conservative in our approach,” he said.

Bernard is confident about his team’s preparations for the game and his ability to maintain their impressive first-round winning streak, which now stands at 42.

“We have a formula that is in place. We are trying to rotate the squad and we are trying to keep the players as fresh as possible throughout the course of the campaign so that when the important games come around, the players will be ready for the task,” he said.

Meanwhile Dunoon are in third place with two points having drawn twice against Pembroke Hall and Cedar Grove.
