Here’s to another 100 years
ON THIS, the 100th anniversary of Jamaica Fruit and Shipping Company Limited, Seaboard Marine extends our heartiest congratulations to your company for accomplishing what so few have been able to do.
Jamaica Fruit & Shipping Company Limited, like many other companies, has had many key milestones over its 100 years of existence. Examples of these are the critical partnership that was forged with the Jamaican Banana Producers Association, now known as Jamaica Producers, in 1929; and the formation of Kingston Wharves in 1939, which was the result of a collaboration between Jamaica Fruit and Grace Kennedy. Those are undoubtedly important dates in the company’s history. More importantly, however, is the fact that a company only lasts for 100 years if it has strong, intelligent, trustworthy people. People with high character. Jamaica Fruit has always been led by people with those attributes.
Seaboard Marine, and by extension, Seaboard Corporation, has had a great relationship with Charles
Johnston and his team for over a quarter of a century. It was initially cultivated by Seaboard Corporation’s former chairman, Harry Bresky, and Seaboard Marine’s former president, John Lynch. Those relationships have grown over the years to now include the current chairman of Seaboard Corporation, Steve Bresky, and the current president of Seaboard Marine, Edward Gonzalez.
The Seaboard relationship with Jamaica Fruit and, by extension, Jamaica Freight, has been very successful over the years, which has created an atmosphere of confidence. Confidence has brought with it a willingness to make additional investments in the Jamaican marketplace, which Seaboard has pursued beginning with Kingston Wharves and, more recently, with its involvement in the local grain industry. Investments and partnerships in Jamaica that we at Seaboard are proud and pleased to have entered.
Congratulations to Jamaica Fruit and Shipping Company Limited for 100 years of excellence and here’s to at least
another 100 more.
