STETHS ignoring favourites tag

- Kavarly Arnold/Gleaner Writer

ST ELIZABETH Technical High School (STETHS) head coach Omar ‘Rambo’ Wedderburn is playing down his team’s billing of ‘favourites’ to advance to the semi-finals of the ISSA/WATA DaCosta Cup.

Instead, Wedderburn says he is taking it one game at a time in the quarterfinals, starting with this afternoon’s match against B.B. Coke at Manchester High School field.

“Honestly, we don’t see ourselves as any favourites,” Wedderburn said. “We are just focusing on doing the right things and getting three points every time we play.

With the group setting, only three points is good enough each time we play, and the other teams in our group have the same thing in mind, to get to the semi-final.

“I’m looking for a competitive game against B.B. Coke,”Wedderburn said.“This game will have a lot to do with bragging rights because of parish rivalry, and the coach is a past student of STETHS. It’s going to be competitive, but I must say it’s not going to be easy for any team playing against STETHS.”

STILL UNDEFEATED

STETHS, who are still undefeated from 14 games, defeated Brimmervale 12-1 on aggregate in the second round last week, but that matters very little to Wedderburn.

“We are not looking back at those games,” he said. “Where we are now is the most important and delicate part of the competition. The crocodile is burning right now, and we are ready to light up the competition with some heat now. We cannot lose or draw a game at this stage and think about semi-finals,” Wedderburn said.

The other game in Group 4 will see Happy Grove High School travel to the Dinthill field to take on McGrath High.

“This game will have a lot to do with bragging rights because of parish rivalry, and the coach is a past student of STETHS”
