Incredible free resource helps get undocumented kids to college
Parents need to know that DREAMer's Roadmap is a scholarship and college information app created for undocumented students. The app and website curate scholarship opportu- nities that are open to undocumented students. It allows users to post and comment on scholarship and college preparedness information, too, acting as a crowdsourcing platform. There's state-by-state information on college aid policy for undocumented applicants and a scholarship search lter. Each scholarship listed includes its due date, award amount, requirements, and a link to where students can apply. Though the terms of service state that the service is intended for users 18 or over, most teens will need to use it before then. Read the privacy policy to nd out about the types of information collected and shared.
WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
Tap "Create an Account" or "Explore" (if you choose not to create an account) to begin using DREAMer's Roadmap. View scholarship opportunities under the "Scholarships" tab. If a student views a scholarship they want to pursue, tap "link to scholarship" to go to the related website. View articles under "tips." Students can comment on and add scholarship info to the app, as well as share information they nd on the app with others via text, email, and social media. Users must create a login to "pin" a scholarship opportunity, but they do not have to register for the app to access scholarship information.
IS IT ANY GOOD?
This app is an incredible free resource for undocumented teens looking for scholarships and college how-to information. Since undocumented teens often don't have the identifying information needed to apply for college and scholarships, nding ways to attend college is really difcult. The comments posted by students and parents on DREAMer's Roadmap attest to how helpful this information is for students seeking to fund college. All of the nuts-and-bolts information is here, and there's a lter option to select scholarships by state, DACA status, and education level. The articles included on college tips, application advice, and more can be useful far beyond the scholarship search and well into college.
