Border security is important
ESTABLISHED 30 years ago on April 5, 1989, the Ports Security Corps (PSC) was the Government’s response to the high rate of drug trafficking activities on air carriers from Jamaica. Since then, the PSC has extended its operations to all ports of entry. Its main goal is to prevent the trafficking of illicit drugs and other contraband and to prevent the entry of unauthorised persons to restricted areas of the ports.
Border security is important and, in many ways, ultimately affects national security. Over the years, the PSC has been strategically strengthening border-protection mechanisms to improve the security stance and development of the country. Its vigilance ensures that the smuggling of drugs, weapons, and illegal immigrants, as well as incidents of human trafficking, terrorism and environmental pollution, are significantly reduced and breaches detected.
We appreciate your efforts and contribution towards making Jamaica’s maritime and aviation locations safe. I encourage the leadership and all staff to continue to serve with a high level of honesty and integrity.
Happy 30th anniversary.
