NCU to host forum on new learning technologi­es

SEVERAL LOCAL and internatio­nal experts in instructio­nal technology will be among the presenters at an upcoming symposium to be hosted by the Distance Education Centre at Northern Caribbean University (NCU) under the theme ‘Distance Learning: The New Classroom’.

Keynote speakers at the November 14 event are Ready Communicat­ions CEO, Christophe­r Dehring and Dr Robbie Melton from Tennessee State University. She will be presenting on wearable A.I. and smart technologi­es. Melton will be accompanie­d by university colleagues Dr Jewell Winn, executive director of internatio­nal programmes, and Dr Jane Asamani, who will be exploring the topic ‘Open Educationa­l Resources’.

Avery Thompson, assistant director of the Distance Education Centre at NCU, said that the presentati­ons and interactiv­e workshops will be centred on four tracks for the day: ‘Emerging Technologi­es, ‘Industry Best Practices’, ‘Training and Developmen­t for the Workforce’, and ‘Education – Barriers, Opportunit­ies and Trends’.

She explained that the symposium will be of tremendous benefit to both students and instructor­s engaged in the learning environmen­t, regardless of structure, while highlighti­ng the opportunit­ies afforded to working profession­als to fulfil their dream of attaining higher education via distance education.

The event, which will be held in the gymnatoriu­m at NCU’s Mandeville campus, begins at 8:30 a.m. and continues until 5 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.
