Making our nation safer
THE PORTS Security Corps Limited (PSC) was formed in 1989 in response to the challenge of contraband moving through our ports. After several high-profile incidents, the Government of the day thought it prudent to form an elite group of people who could assist in protecting our borders. Their fundamental role and purpose was the prevention of the illicit trade of drugs and other contraband through our ports.
The PSC, throughout the years, has made a significant dent in the drug-trafficking trade and other illicit activities, working alongside other law-enforcement entities locally and internationally.
This Government is committed to continuing its support of the PSC as we work closely with its parent ministry to provide the necessary resources that will ensure that this important body remains viable and effective.
In today’s world, where countries have to contend with issues of terrorism, organised crime, and human trafficking, among others, the corps must stand at the forefront of any success in facing these challenges.
As PSC celebrates its 30th year of existence, the Government and people of Jamaica would like to extend our thanks to all its staff members for their selfless contribution to the nation.
You are all to be commended as you collectively work to make our country safer. We are aware of the risks that present themselves in this job you undertake, and therefore, it is even more important that you are recognised for your dedication and commitment to protecting our borders.
We wish the PSC the best on its 30th anniversary of existence and look forward to another 30 years filled with further success.
Once again, special congratulations to all the members of staff as I leave you with these words from Sir Richard Branson: “Train people well enough so they can leave, treat them well enough so they don’t want to.”
I wish you all God’s richest blessings. ANDREW HOLNESS
Prime Minister
