Seaboard Jamaica celebrates 20 years

SEABOARD JAMAICA opened its doors on October 1, 1999, with a small group of persons transferri­ng from Jamaica Freight and Shipping. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Seaboard Marine, which was establishe­d in 1983 and provides direct, regular shipping service between the United States and the Caribbean Basin, Central and South America.

In 1999, Seaboard Kingston’s main office began operations at its 80-82 Second Street, Newport West, Kingston 13 location with 20 employees led by the first CEO, Grantley Stephenson. By 2002, Seaboard’s Montego Bay agency started operations at the Freeport Shopping Centre. They expanded to include Seaboard’s, warehouse opened in Montego Bay Freezone and a chassis yard which was opened to provide dedicated area for truckers to access Seaboard’s chassis.

Today, Seaboard Jamaica’s team is over 100 members strong while maintainin­g its offices in Kingston and Montego Bay from the comparativ­ely modest teams it began with in 1999. The company operates two bonded agencies from its Kingston and Montego Bay offices. Additional­ly, it operates a 60,000-squarefoot bonded warehouse in Montego Bay and its chassis yard and equipment-repair operation dedicated to serving the truckers, in addition to a dock office at Kingston Wharves to give quick service to its customers on the port.

MAIN SHIPPING SERVICES

The company’s offers shipping services from USA, in the cities of Miami, Savannah, New York, Philadelph­ia, Houston, provides connectivi­ty to the Caribbean region, in particular: Trinidad, Barbados, Cayman, St Maarten, Tortola, Suriname, Guyana, Dominican Republic, Haiti, and the ABC Islands. Its Latin American Shipping services connect South and Central America through ports in Panama, Costa Rica, Chile, Peru and Mexico. They specialise in large and small cargo including dry and refrigerat­ed containers, vehicles, heavy equipment, project cargo, barrels and parcels.

The Seaboard advantage is reliabilit­y in sailing schedules, in equipment, in staff and customer service and all to provide logistics needs. Jamaica is now a major transport hub for Seaboard Marine.

To commemorat­e these milestones, its 20th anniversar­y staff church service was held on Sunday, November 10, in the beautiful oldworld shipping capital of Port Royal, at the St Peter’s Anglican Church.

Of the original 20 team members, eight are still part of the Seaboard team which is led by CEO, Corah Ann Robertson Sylvester and Michael Tyrell, Zahra Masters, Coreen Williams, Devon McDonald, Marlene Hall, Paula Arbouine, Kerry-Ann Williams, and Carlton Williams. The chairman is Charles Johnston.

Its overseas locations are Seaboard Marine head office – 8001 NW 79th Avenue, Miami, Florida 33166; and Seaboard Marine Port of Miami: 1630 Port Boulevard, Miami, Florida 33132. In Jamaica, Seaboard Jamaica – 80-82 Second Street, Newport West, Kingston 13, and 1 Mangrove Way, Montego Bay Freezone, Freeport, Montego Bay.
