Wolmer’s complete Manning Cup semi-final qualification
WOLMER’S BOYS’ School secured the last ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup semi-final spot after they completed the second half of their final Group G quarter-final game against Charlie Smith without scoring at the Ashenheim Stadium.
The Alex Thomas-coached team advanced to the semis with a 3-0 result after hitting three first-half goals past Jerome Waite’s side on Tuesday before the game was blown off at half-time because of heavy rain and a waterlogged field.
The result puts Wolmer’s through to the last four of the competition, where they will face title favourites St Andrew Technical (STATHS).
However, Thomas thought the 19 hours between the two halves took the intensity and interest out of the contest, and both teams just went thorough the motions.
“The second half ended 0-0, so we won three nil. It was a second half that was slow paced and lacklustre. If the game had finish in 90 minutes yesterday it would have been a better scoreline for us.
But coming back from yesterday (Tuesday) to play another 45 minutes today (yesterday), we got a lacklustre performance,” he said.
However, he believes that they have work to do before the semi-finals but said that they would be ready for the Philip Williamscoached STATHS team.
“I feel good about the result, and we are ready to play St Andrew Technical. We will prepare for them. They are a strong team, a well-coached team, and we know the challenges. It’s a semi-final game, so we know the type of game we will be up against, but we are ready. We still have to improve in all areas of the pitch, but we will be ready. So we will plan and prepare properly,”Thomas said. -L.S.
