The future looks bright

- DORETH A. CHAMBERS, JP Principal

TWENTY YEARS ago, the dream of Mark and Carlene Duhaney to contribute meaningfully to nation-building through education was realised. Hosanna Kindergarten and Preparatory School was established as an independent school to cater to the diverse needs of students aged 3 to 12 years old.

From very modest beginnings with just 13 students and three teachers, the school flourished. To God be the glory; just look at us now.

This anniversary celebration affords us the opportunity to give thanks as we reflect on our 20-years journey. The theme selected to honour this milestone; ‘Embracing the Past; Charting New Pathways for Today and the Future’, accentuates the homage due to pioneer principal Linette Redway (deceased) and her team. They laid the solid foundation and established the culture of excellence that is now synonymous with Hosanna Kindergarten and Preparatory. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to them; there is so much for us to celebrate. Successive principals, boards of directors, teachers, administrative and ancillary staff, students, and parents have improved on this outstanding legacy.

The accomplishments of our students are legendary. Over the years, they have gained several prestigious academic awards, inclusive of the Bank of Nova Scotia Shining Star Award – three times – Sagicor, Government and Victoria Mutual Building Society Scholarships numerous times. These awards are testament to students’ academic strength, teachers’ skill and passion, and parents’ commitment. The fruits of love, hard work and persistence.

Thanks to our supportive school board chairman, directors, administrators, teachers, administrative and ancillary staff, students, parents and community partners who are passionate about developing productive students through quality education. As we enjoy our past accomplishments, we must continue to be innovative, incorporating global trends in order to maintain our tradition of maximising our students’ development.

We offer sincere gratitude to our benefactor, Antony Hart, CD, whose outstanding generosity led to the extension of the school’s physical plant, making it more spacious and comfortable, and the provision of technical support that enhances the teaching-learning sphere. To our other community partners, Deon Dujon and Doctor’s Cave Beach, who merged with Hart to provide a state-of-the-art multipurpose court and playfield. I express my wholehearted gratitude.

As we celebrate this important milestone, we are conscious of our past and stand ready to undertake the challenges our successful future will present. The goals of our school will be maintained through collaborative efforts. We continue to rely on God’s guidance, and as our school’s song says:

“Here from this hill we look to you,

Keep our vision new,

Bless our memory, advance our school,

As we keep the golden rule. Hosanna Prep,

God’s blessings rain on you.”
