Hosanna Invitational Under-10 Football Competition here to stay

-

HISTORY WAS created earlier this year when school administrators launched the Hosanna Preparatory School Invitational 10 and under, Football Competition to provide a competitive spirit among their peers in other preparatory and government-operated primary schools.

“We kicked off our 10 and under, football competition on October 10 with nine teams in two zones and the camaraderie between the teams has been excellent so far,” said coach Smith of Hosanna Preparatory School in Montego Bay, St James.

With this move Hosanna, in its’ 20th year of existence, would have done what many other schools their age and older have failed to do when they established their own football competition for children.

“This competition comes as one of the major events of our anniversary celebrations and consists of nine teams, representing a mixture of preparatory and primary schools in St James,” Chambers explained.

However, she said, “This is one of the events that will continue long after our celebrations would have ended.”

The competition is being played at their new sports complex, which was made possible by way of an investment of $2.6 million into the school’s sports programme by popular Montego Bay businessman and philanthropist, Anthony Hart.

One parent explained that since having our own sporting complex, we see where our children are excelling in track and field, to the point that the school has since entered external competitions and has done well.

“In the last Jamaica Independent School Association (JISA) Western Championships, we came away with seven gold and two silver medals; and at the National JISA Preparatory Schools Athletic Championship, held at the Catherine Hall stadium, Theona Whitmore still holds the meet record in the ball throw event,” she added.
