Life begins with a journey

-

SCHOOLING, FOR most, forms a significant part of this voyage through life. The foundation upon which my early-childhood journey was built began at The Queen’s Preparatory School, where I spent several formative years of my early life. The building blocks of socialising, leadership, discipline, friendship and education were developed, groomed and even tweaked as I made my way through the grades. My strength of character and resilience were harnessed in these early years. I went from not knowing what career path I wanted to take, to finding my ‘eureke’ moment in grade six. Through the guidance of my teachers, I held several roles as chess captain, pack leader of the Cub Scout and in grade six, head boy and valedictorian for the graduating class of 1994.

‘Never settle for anything less than excellence’ were the words echoed by Fray, my grade-six teacher. This mantra guided me in grade six, as I battled and overcame the then Common Entrance Examination required to matriculate to secondary school. Upon leaving The Queen’s Preparatory School, I graduated on a government scholarship to Campion College, and onwards I went to furthering my studies in the field of medicine, and then specialising in radiology.

The word ‘preparatory’ as define by the Collins Dictionary is ‘actions are done before doing something else as a form of preparation or as an introduction’. The Queen’s Preparatory School prepared and introduced me to the essential elements of life and the importance of a strong foundation.

I am a proud past student and today a proud Queen’s Preparatory parent who continues to support and promote this prestigious school. I say, Happy 65th anniversary Queen’s Preparatory, and may the tradition of building and grooming our nation’s leaders continue.
