Expletives and our value system

- PARIS TAYLOR Greater Portmore paristaylor82@hotmail.com

ETHE EDITOR, Madam: XPLETIVES HAVE no place in modern-day Jamaica cultural development. We are very receptive to things that diminish our value system and call it the modern way of thinking.

There are no excuses for people who try to be mavericks while trying to change the status quo that is embedded in those who try vehemently to preserve dignity and pride within our midst. Why are we going to sit back and allow persons of so-called low class to show us the way to have a gentler and better society?

Waldane Walker, the valedictorian from Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, might be intelligent but he lacks class and I say this without apology. We cannot allow our morals to disintegrate into the abyss of no return; as such, we will have to take back our society from the wayward ones.

Everybody should adhere to the dignified status of our predecessors and advance our cause with splendour. We are ready for changes but what type of changes do we expect from the current generation? We are being led into dungeons of darkness with no chance of seeing a better tomorrow.

This young Edna Manley college graduate who went on a different tangent should not be castigated but should learn to conduct himself in the manner which is correct and of good taste. He is only an impressionable mind which is yet to learn the rudiments of life, though I might be naive in saying.

We cannot allow the wretchedness of planet Earth to continue to lift its ugly head in society and be adored by the masses. I am not pretending to be wiseacre but this is common truth.

PRIME EXAMPLE SETTERS

We need students to look at the brighter side of life and make positive declaration to their peers that they are the ultimate of any generation. They should declare themselves as the prime example setters and nation builders whom we will see as the model students of the future.

Why should they develop loopholes wherein the future generation will consider them as deficits in the generation gaps and blame them for future discords in our society? The coming generation will definitely blame this younger generation for the lack leadership acumen.

Where is the absolute professionalism and utmost accountability of our posterity generations if this is what we are expecting from them? We want our youngster to be exemplary in their dispositions and follow sanguine protocols.
