Good news for Jamaica

IN RECENT days, this country has had some good news.

Tajay Gayle and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, MVP stars, were named RJRGLEANER Sports Foundation Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year.

Both recipients gave inspirational acceptance speeches – speaking to endurance, consistency and focus from Shelly; and Tajay’s signature “greatness can come from anywhere”.

They were both looking great and resplendently attired, Tajay with his Papine High School tie. The catwalks of Milan and Paris are beckoning them.

I must single out Dahlia Harris, who, after doing a marathon hosting on Saturday, I saw her all the way in Lionel Town at Ms Loretta Young’s funeral. We will always love you, Ms Lor, and Dahlia, you are a really good person.

At last after decades, the premier historic town of Port Royal is seeing development. Yesterday morning at 8:09, the Marella Discover 11, a cruise ship, docked at its pier.

This is really good news for the residents and Jamaica. Kudos to the Government, Professor Gordon Shirley (president and CEO of the Port Authority of Jamaica) and his team. I was mentally transported back to one of his lectures at The University of The West Indies on the Singapore port.

Prof has a brilliant mind. He would lecture for multiple hours of quantitative subjects – without script, textbook or electronic aid; just chalk and board. The late Professor Rex Nettleford and Ambassador Anthony Johnson had this rare ability in their lectures.

The human capital of this country is world-renowned.
