Kaydean Dawkins the Optimist

RETAIL MANAGER Kaydean Dawkins is one of the movers and shakers for Medicinal Cannabis brand, Epican. Kaydean is perceived as a disciplina­rian and mentor for her staff. Committed to effective leadership, she encourages the optimum performanc­e from her workers and resourcefu­lness within the company.

After overcoming the trauma of bullying in high school, Dawkins developed great interest in the wellfare of others in similar circumstan­ces, which set in motion her passion for humanitari­anism. One of her biggest influences and inspiratio­n is the former first lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, who Dawkins believes is a true representa­tion of a strong woman. “I admire her charisma and her ability to stay humble and focused throughout all the challenges faced. Her famous quote ‘when they go low, we go high’, has been one that resonated with me throughout my life,” she added.

Kaydean is a force to be reckoned with. Her ability to balance her work and social life is admirable, which leads to a more committed and positive attitude towards her staff, as she aims for upward mobility in the company. Shoulderin­g the responsibi­lity for both operating stores in Kingston and Montego Bay, respective­ly, there’s no doubt that the retail manager

is knowledgea­ble of cannabis, but also uses it. “I do consume the product by using the syringe or vaping simply to relieve stress and insomnia,” she admits. These results, however, do not stem from the working environmen­t but by the level at which she aims to perform her due diligence within the company.

“Hard work brings success,” Kaydean Dawkins proclaims as her precept in life. As such, she works assiduousl­y to increase productivi­ty. Prior to working at Epican, her internatio­nal experience­s in accounting, sales and management, both in the retail and insurance industry, motivated her to pivot those lessons to build Brand Jamaica, admiring the uniqueness and passion that Epican has for cannabis. “I like challengin­g myself and advancing on a personal level while contributi­ng positively to society. This was a new company in a new industry with new challenges, which would force me to develop new skills and help people in ways that I never would have attempted before, that is what piqued my interest,” she commented.

Ten months into her employment, she continues to aim high as she advises consumers to familiaris­e themselves with the products and their unique purposes. Her persona as a catalyst translates within the workplace, resulting in encouraged staff and increase productivi­ty. “Epican is on the rise for greatness,” she stated.
