By-election, a marketing ploy and waste of money

-

THE EDITOR, Madam:

IT SEEMS Prime Minister Andrew Holness does not have enough pressing matters on his plate to want to run an umpteenth by-election when a general election is constitutionally due within a year. Meanwhile, there was a drive-by shooting in Ackee Walk, St Andrew, which left three people dead and several injured a couple days ago.

Mr Holness, we don’t have the time for you and Nesta Morgan to run another marketing campaign. Morgan is quite upset and disappointed that the People’s National Party (PNP) has declined to participate. Oh dear!

First of all, nobody who is sensible is buying the argument that Rudyard Spencer is simply resigning to take up diplomatic duties, supposedly to quell the Clarendon seat war which has been looming between two younger aspirants.

That internal feud, Mr Holness, is really your business. The country doesn’t have the time or resources to play your games right now. WHY THE RUSH?

I, for one, applaud the PNP for the stance it has taken. This is nothing but an opportunity created to win another by-election ahead of a general election to cement the Jamaica Labour Party as the winning team and place the PNP as constant loser.

If the PNP’s Patricia Duncan Sutherland is going to lose this seat, let her lose at the general election. Ruddy could have finished his term. Why the rush? Why waste scarce resources?

Please give us the crime plan, fix the sliding dollar, dengue, etc. Call the general election. Not one more by-election unless someone is sick or dead.

Find something constructive to do! Enough with the marketing!
