No confidence in our national security

THE EDITOR, Madam:

CAN YOU count the many times that I have written about this deeply rooted gun trade that is blasting Jamaica to and fro, sending thousands of people down into the pits of untimely deaths? And yet the powers that be continue to overlook it, talking about other matters, but not the heart of the matter.

How old is this gun trade? It’s older than many of us!

Psalm 37:1 says: “Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labour in vain.”

Likewise, unless our national security, the authorities or the powers-that-be dismantle this overpowering gun trade and its runners, people will continue to die easily and senselessly, or the dogs will continue to ‘nyaam our suppa!’

There is a thing called freedom of speech, so I am free to state my opinion. I have no confidence in our national security. If I am not mistaken, over the past decade or more, 10,000 people have lost their lives, in crime and violence with 1,000-odd being wiped out each year. This is absolutely a series of killing spree.

And if we were to check the total number of people that have been murdered in crime and violence, from 1983 until now, could we stand up to it? Jamaica is being tagged with three detrimental and diabolic plagues, which are the major causes as to why people continue to die like flies in this country.

They are: Gun crime, domestic violence and traffic accidents. These three make it seems like hell let loose in this country.
