Why was KSAMC refused lotto licence?

- TEDDYLEE GRAY Ocho Rios, St Ann teddylee.gray@gmail.com

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I GRIEVE for the poor of this country, the people who depend on the local government system and councillors every day. It is of note that Mr Greg Christie will be in charge of the Integrity Commission, so at least it gives some hope.

I recommend that his first call of duty be the investigation and reporting to Jamaica why the Kingston & St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) was refused a lotto licence.

From Whappie King was a boy Jamaica is known as a gaming country that started with Town Moore on Friday nights (cycle race), bingo parties on most downtown streets, Crown and Anchor, and also the three-card man at every fair, even funerals, hence Jamaica is a gaming country.

I remember Edward Seaga putting the poorest of the poor to work, earning wages. It was the lotto company, the first in Jamaica that I remembered as a boy, the Jamaica Sweepstakes that was worldwide in sale each year.

The KSAMC lotto licence was applied for to fix parish council roads, rivers and drains all over Jamaica, and also to build four gabion basket factories that would supply baskets to not only Jamaica but to other Caribbean islands.

The poorest of the poor would be working on roads, drains and building baskets, earning a living. The local government system would not have to be awaiting a minister’s handout. The time is now to give KSAMC the licence that was applied for.

Again, Mr Christie, please help Jamaica by finding out why KSAMC was not given a licence. COUNCILLOR LEE CLARKE Former Mayor of Kingston over Kerensia Morrison?

I strongly believe it is time for a woman to compete in a safe seat for the JLP. Like Damion Crawford, Kerensia Morrison’s name is the first name to be called by Labourites for that seat, which shows her popularity.

The party says that it is data driven so I suggest they conduct a poll in North Central Clarendon to determine their preferred candidate.
