Roger Chang was a champion
THE EDITOR, Madam:
THE NEW Kingston Citizen Association is devastated by the brutal slaying of our dear president, Roger Chang. President Roger was selfless in his pursuit of advocating for the rights of the citizens.
He was a consummate professional who was gentle but strong and determined to ensure that the citizens not just in New Kingston environs should have the right to enjoy their homes in peace and with privacy they deserve, especially when they all are contributing meaningfully to nation building.
His major focus at the time of his untimely death was in trying to ensure that the Noise Abatement Act be enforced and that any subsequent amendments must consider that the citizens should not be disturbed because of commercial gains and should never be put in the position to be asked to compromise on their rights.
He enjoyed excellent and respectful relationships not just with his association but with other associations, the business fraternity, both sides of the political arena, the police team both at the New Kingston Police Post and the head of the police division and the media and other stakeholders. He was a champion. He was a hero.
Our sincere condolences to his family, especially his daughter Natasha and son Brandon.
We are confident that our police partners will work assiduously to bring the perpetrator of this hideous crime to justice and bring closure for his family, friends, wellwishers and his New Kingston family that loved him dearly. May his soul rest in peace. NEW KINGSTON CITIZEN ASSOCIATION
