ONTEGO BAY Mayor Homer Davis has urged the citizens of St James to remain calm amid

Mthe COVID-19 pandemic, saying that the city of Montego Bay and the wider St James would weather the passage of the novel coronaviru­s. Davis reiterated the declaratio­n by Finance and the Public Service

Minister Dr Nigel Clarke last Thursday that manufactur­ers and distributo­rs had sufficient supplies for another three months.

We have seen anxiety and some level of fear among our citizens. We have seen it being played out by way of persons flooding the supermarke­ts and other places in search of groceries and sanitisati­on items.

The mayor also noted that StJMC has activated its Emergency Operating Centre in the wake of the increasing numbers of novel coronaviru­s cases being detected on the island.

“The Emergency Operating Centre Committee will be meeting twice weekly and will continue to focus on all areas to ensure that the citizens are aware of the dos and don’ts in relation to COVID-19.

Among the measures instituted is the installati­on of handwashin­g basins at the Charles Gordon Market. The municipali­ty will also be moving quickly to install additional basins across the city.
