MoBay will ride out COVID-19 storm – mayor

ONTEGO BAY Mayor Homer Davis has urged the citizens of St James to remain calm amid
Mthe COVID-19 pandemic, saying that the city of Montego Bay and the wider St James would weather the passage of the novel coronavirus. Davis reiterated the declaration by Finance and the Public Service
Minister Dr Nigel Clarke last Thursday that manufacturers and distributors had sufficient supplies for another three months.
The mayor was speaking following a meeting of an Emergency Operating Centre
We have seen anxiety and some level of fear among our citizens. We have seen it being played out by way of persons flooding the supermarkets and other places in search of groceries and sanitisation items.

While admitting that the anxiety among residents was not unexpected, Davis, who chairs the St James Municipal Corporation, said the municipality will ride out the storm. “We have seen anxiety and some level of fear among our citizens. We have seen it being played out by way of persons flooding the supermarkets and other places in search of groceries and sanitisation items,” said Davis.
The mayor also noted that StJMC has activated its Emergency Operating Centre in the wake of the increasing numbers of novel coronavirus cases being detected on the island.
“The Emergency Operating Centre Committee will be meeting twice weekly and will continue to focus on all areas to ensure that the citizens are aware of the dos and don’ts in relation to COVID-19.
Among the measures instituted is the installation of handwashing basins at the Charles Gordon Market. The municipality will also be moving quickly to install additional basins across the city.
